ŽSR, Modernization of the railway line Devínska Nová Ves – state border SR/CR

The line is part of the global connection of the pan-European railway corridor IV within the main TEN-T Core network and is also included in the AGC and AGTC agreements (route no. E52 and C-E52). At the same time, it is part of the connection of the Slovak-Czech border with the Slovak-Hungarian border through Bratislava.

About the project

The modernized railway line is part of line no. 126A Bratislava-hl. St. – Kúty – Lanžhot (CZ). The customer of the construction is Železnice Slovenskej republiky (ŽSR), the contractor is the Italian-Slovak association JV ICM – VÁHOSTAV-SK. The leading member of the association is the company ICM S.p.A Vicenza, the second member is the company VÁHOSTAV-SK,a.s., Bratislava.

Project and engineering activities are carried out by an association of companies under the management of REMING Consult, a. s., MORAVIA CONSULT OLOMOUC (ČR) and TRANSGEO LTD (Bulgaria) are also members of the association. The construction is financed from European sources – from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), within two programming periods, i.e. from the period 2014 – 2020 and from the period 2021 – 2027. The contract is governed by the yellow FIDIC terms and conditions, first issued by the International Federation of Consulting Engineers from 1999, meaning “Design and Build”.

Among the goals of the modernization are the unification of the subject section of the track with the railway system in the European Union, the harmonization of quality indicators and the increase of railway performance parameters. The modernization of the track consists in improving its technical parameters by increasing its technical equipment by integrating modern and progressive elements with the simultaneous innovation of security systems and traffic management systems.

The result will be the modernization of the track section to increase track speed up to 200 km/h with local restrictions, shorten journey times, reduce noise and ensure barrier-free accessibility of stations and platforms. Modernization is being prepared for mixed transport, i.e. for rail passenger and freight transport.

The construction is located on the territory of two regions – Bratislava and Trnava -, extends into four districts and crosses 19 cadastral territories. In view of this, it is an extremely complex construction, especially in terms of the performance of project and engineering activities, property law arrangement and communication with local governments, affected third parties and state administration authorities.

Breakdown of individual construction divisions

The project is divided into two basic parts A and B, which contain other integral parts of the building (UČS). The detailed breakdown can be seen from fig.2.

The first part of the construction (A) called ŽSR, Modernization of the Devínska Nová Ves railway line – the SR/CR state border includes a total of two sections and contains 7 UCS, 487 construction objects (SO) and 137 operational sets (PS), which is a total of 624 SO and PS. In terms of implementation, it includes construction and technological modifications on 31,096 km of the railway line, including the complex reconstruction of the Zohor and Malacky railway stations and the stops Devínske Jazero, Plavecký Štvrtok and Brodské.

The second part of the construction (B) called ŽSR, Implementation of ERMTS on the section of Devínska Nová Ves – the SR/CR state border includes a total of three sections and contains 8 UČS, 45 SO and 45 PS, which is a total of 90 SO and PS. In terms of implementation, it includes construction and technological modifications related to the implementation of ERMTS on 73,516 km of railway line. In total, there are 532 SO and 182 PS on both parts of the building (A) and (B), which is a total of 714 SO and PS.
